Hypershot ’10

I just looked at the specs list of hypershot '10

http://www.bunkspeed.com/news/news_hypershot_10.html

My first impression is that they are hopefully parting from they "too original" interface to something that is more similar to, say, Alias Imagestudio or a modern rendering package. The bit that really makes me drool for this new version is the model tree, the single feature I missed most from Hypershot, and that prevented me from buying it :)

Hypershot is so easy to use and so fast that I can see thier future upgrades beating sales on most other render packages. I agree the model tree is an important part thats missing. Hyper 10 should be very very nice.

Now..... if only I could upgrade my machine

Keyshot 2 is much better....with better images produced.

Well being that Keyshot IS hypershot, I don't think it's that much better... Keyshot 2 is slightly better at caustics and other details, but overall you obtain almost the same quality. I'm playng with the beta of Shot (with iRay) but I'm quite disappointed, on my (not top notch) machine it is definitely slower and less responsive than keyshot and hypershot :( At the moment I like Keyshot 2 more then Shot, but that's only a beta, let's wait for the final release :)

One thing all this new kids on the block still can't do is resolve coincident surfaces like in a glass full of liquid. It's something even unbiased rendering engines don't manage properly without surface tricks, but Lightwave can do it in a breeze (example: http://zpaolo.deviantart.com/art/Milk-bottle-131196599 no spurious polygons at the interface between milk and glass).

I'm a bit put off by the mysterious circumstances
surrounding the whole breakup of Luxion and Bunkspeed.
Neither party seems to be willing to tell anyone what the
hell happened. There's just Keyshot who seem like they
abruptly "took their ball home" leaving Bunkspeed hung
out to dry, and then Bunkspeed who are very conspicuously
silent on their forums and even avoiding of questions
about what is going on with Shot (like just only saying
it was going to come out any day when it actually was
months away etc).

I've never used any other rendering software. Was
Hypershot really the easiest to use by far?

I suppose if that's the case then I should probably just
stick to either Shot or Keyshot. But I do like the idea
of GPGPU accleration in ray tracing and would like to be
able to use that power (not available in Keyshot). On
the other hand, I don't like how Shot only works with
NVidia Cuda and would be way slower than Keyshot with any
ATI hardware.

Is there anything else out there I might like as much as
I liked Hypershot?

I just loaded up Shot and frankly its disappointing - no
GPU acceleration even with FX580 and CUDA - its needs a
card with a min of 1G Ram.

Given that the 580 works well with ProE you'd have to say
its a big leap backwards - you will need a 3800 to get any
GPU traction. Nice interface but no performance.

Perhaps this explains the split.
