Catia V5 files to Wildfire 2.0

I have seen a few questions relating to translating from Catia to Pro/E but have not seen any answers; I can only assume that this is not possible. I am currently in the same boat in that I receive files generated in Catia format but I am unable to open them. We have contacted the customer but are unable to get the files sent in an .stp format.

I am in need of an inexpensive data translation program that can be used to convert from Catia to Pro\E or even to .stp format. Any help that can be rendered will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Ascorti,

The option that we just found for inexpensive translation is Adobe Acrobat 3D. It seems to read any high end 3d file and can export into iges or step. You can download a 30 day trial from Adobe and test before you buy.

Hope this helps.

Ascorti,

Data translation software can be quite costly so we use a 3rd party data translation company called Translation Technologies (www.translation tech.com). We have a seat of Catia V5 so we can generate STEP and IGES files from V5 files ourselves, but we use the 3rd party service to do translations from UG to Pro/E. They do the translations for us via the web. Ask for Tim Boden. It's a much less expensive alternative to buying a translation program considering the number of times we need a translation done (<5 times/month).

Ascorti et al,

PTC do a module set for translation between systems that is built into most of their 'packages' for Wildfire. Called the ATB (Associative Topology Bus) it has translators for Catia V5 and most other mainstream packages. Quality is dependent on the quality of the source geometry of course, but it works pretty well, sometimes requiring a little work with the Import Data Doctor to tidy up....

Hope that offers an alternative...

As a data translation specialist (Theorem Solutions Ltd.) we could offer you a product to translate V5 data into Pro-E or a service to do it for you.
Which method would you prefer?

This sounds like something a guy should buy. This is something that alot of Cad translators for money aren't going to like.

tommypurple2 - It is a very good buy. I have only found a very small few files(solidworks - maybe newer version) that gave me an error in reading. Italso allows you tomake 3d pdf files that you can send to customers and they can rotate the part with just using acrobat reader 8.1 or higher. Great for communication.
