I feel differently. If you use something for work you should get paid yes. However you have to learn how to make everything fun. Using your work item as a toy is how I teach contractors to break past barriers and become the best. Design engine contractors become the best super users at their jobs because they know how to have fun, learn and try new things. People at work should take one or two days off per year to model something new fun and exciting (which is what you get when you hire me for a class by the way).

As far as off the shelf components... I have been making RSD symbol library and am planning on making that available online free.
