With all the rendering discussions in the recent past, I decided to jump on the ARX bandwagon.

One question: I have a transparent plastic container on a white background and can't seem to get the lights right. The best option I found was to create a custom color with the Photolux setting Reflectance set to "Phong" (I'm on Wildfire 3.0). However, now I can't get any transparency no matter what settings I try. Does Phong reflectance allow for transparency?

I know this stuff is relatively new but the lack of documentation on these settings combined with PTC tech support's unfamiliarity with it is a bit disconcerting, especially considering all the other help with the core modeling funcationalities out there.

I dont have WF3 so Im not sure what PHONG reflecting is.  I am asuming its something like fresnal reflection.  If your trying to make glass in a white room it will likely never look right.  There needs to be something to reflect on it or it will simply just be transparent.

I know in wildfire 2.0 from some time after date code m130 the transparency seemed to falter (i.e. does not work)  I got confirmation of this from a PTC maintenance rep.  He also tried it in a version of 3.0 prior to release and it was also true in that, so he put in for a fix.  So from what you are saying it appears that transparency still doesn't work.  Well that just stinks.  I haven't migrated to 3.0 yet due to licensing and logistical needs, but hopefully they will fix it soon.
