How to break reference?

How can you easily create a hole from another part and then break the link so that they are no longer tied together? We need this because when we build a jig around a part, we need to know where the holes were before the part changed so we can modify the jig.

Use the mating hole as a sketch ref, sketch the hole, and them remove the reference and strengthen the resulting weak dims from whatever reference you like.

Is this what you are after?

I have done that in a similar way using 'coaxial' as a definition. When working in an assembly, you make the detail part itself active and create the feature. Then, once complete, IMMEDIATELY go into the part and redefine the feature.
