Software development...

Hai,

I have worked around 3 years in CAD field.I justget bored and try to move into software development field.

I have more interested to create a CAD package like Pro-E.

But I know the funda C language. Canany one suggest me the bestway to do.?

Thanks in advance.

Well, heck... If you know C++, Pro/TOOLKIT is what you are
looking for. We do not have it, and I know it is a bit pricey,
but it provides an API that allows you to control nearly every aspect
of Pro/E.

You could be a very valuable asset if you know CAD AND C++.

Writing applications to generate one off custom products and all
documentation pertaining to those products is a niche market that you
could excel in.

I don't know if this is exactly what you were looking for, but it is an option.

Good Luck,

Jim

Jim,

Thanks for your reply.I'm looking for the same what you said.

And I haven't worked in Pro/Toolkit environment. So i won't liketo spend my time with Pro/Toolkit. I wolud like to concentrate only on C++.

And i would like to work around C++ tochange Pro-E environment, methodology of making entities(like curves, circles etc..) and to add some customized added features.

Is it possible to do so..?

Pro/Toolkitis written inC++. Toolkit is the API for Pro Engineer, to let you do exactly what you said.

Man I didn't know that? I know Pro/TOOLKIT and I haven't gotten any job offers lately nor have I seen any. Let me know who will pay for such a skillset.

Patrick,

Maybe it is the economy or maybe you need a website.

Look at http://www.buydesignautomation.com/

They have a great marketing strategy and I hear they are doing well.

I would also recommend attending Pro/User conferences and meetings and passing out business cards and talking to manufacturers.

Pro/E is a great tool, but the learning curve is steep. Tie that
with many companies not having C++ programmers who are also CAD users,
and you can see why I say it is a niche market.

Although my company isn't quite large enough to look into a customized solution, I cannot imagine there is no company who is.

Hope this helps,

Jim

Unfortunately, I am not a C++ nor Toolkit guru. I have only used
J/Link sparingly. Also, googling various terms on the subject
does not yield many results. I think your best bet is to acquire
the manual and go from there. Good luck,

Jim

There isn't much info out there on toolkit and that's part of the problem. There is a toolkit forum on ptcusers tho

Visual Basic and VBA, works greatwith the other programs I wantPro/E to talk to.

Bill,

I have read up on http://www.buydesignautomation.com/.

I don't mean to plug their software outright, as I have not actually
used it, but I do know that they have an API that allows you to use
almost any programming language to work with Pro/E.

Go to their web site and read about the Nitromation API. It is a
web service that allows you to interface nearly any XML compatible
programming language with Pro/E. This could extend your VB skills
to another (Pro/E) level.
