Importing .3DS files

survey

New member
Hello,

What is the best way to import .3ds files? I need to create mechanical files from a 3DS model. (Wildfire 2.0)

Currently I have access the Rhino where I can import the file, but it seems that the only export that works is the .stl.

Is there a way I can export the file from 3DS to give me surface files?

Thanks,

I hope you like triangulated surfaces.

In Rhino, call up the 3ds file hightlight all thesurfaces to convert,at the command line type in mesh2nurb (or meshtonurb, I haven't done it in years) and that should convert all the files from polymesh to nurb surfaces.

Pro/E work with nurb surfaces, not polymesh.

The files better be really tight before converting them because they will look terrible, but the tighter the triangle are the bigger the file and the worst it is to work with.
