New system

Hello,

I am building a new computer dedicated to suit a student version of
ProE/Mechanica for use at home. I currently only make parts, assemblies
up to 20-30 parts, and analyse engineering problems via Mechanica. This
may increase in the future though.

Is the following a descent system for what I will need?

-Athlon 64x2 3800+

-1-2 GB Ram

-Nvidia Quadro FX540 (or) ATI fireGL V3100

Thanks in advance

My only advise is to put in as much RAM as you can afford.
If you run out of RAM during an analysis it doesnt matter how fast CPU's or how fast disc you have, the analysis will be awfully slow.

I'm sure that system is better than what many posters on this forum use at work. For mid sized assemblies, a low end gaming machine with 1 Gb of RAM and an Nvidia gaming card will work well.

Cram it with ram preferable EEC (error correcting) if you can afford it go for a quadro or fire gl as they have certified drivers formost CAD/CAEapps including PROE and then the nice people atPTC dont laugh in your face when you have a hardware problem!!

I've no doubt gaming stations work i've modelling on them myself in the past!

Cheers paul
