Roughing Sequence

Using WF2 here, and I can't seem to get the roughing sequence to
actually ramp into the part. I change the "CLOSED_AREA_ENTRY"
parameter to ramp, and there is no difference. My part has two
pockets and an open section. I just want it to ramp at a shallow
angle, but it doesn't seem to want to. Argh...

Thanks

not real sure on WF if it is anything like r2001 .. you should have a advanced option button forcut parameters.. you normally get just the bread on regular options but if you want butter too. then you need to find it in there..

ramp_angle is what you seem to be looking for .. default is 90.. so my guess that if you check an option to ramp on another menu unless you change the angle it will still be 90

Unfortunately, since I (almost) always set my ramp angle to 7 degrees,
this is not the problem. The CONSTANT_LOAD option will make it
ramp into the part at something like a 45 degree angle, and this does
nothing but irritate me and break cutters. Thanks for the input.

I am starting to get really angry at this problem. This, of
course, usually happens after I call PTC. I spent 30 minutes on
the phone for the guy to tell me "I'll have to get back with you, I
don't know if this is part of the functionality." I don't
understand how this roughing sequence can be useful if it generates
tool paths that break tools. what's worst, I can't delete it, or
I lose the re-roughing and the finishing sequence. I think I'm
having one of those days where I hate my computer, Pro/E, etc...

I hear you on that... been there done that.. alway real nice when they say they will get back to you ... and they don't

You may want to post the question over at ptcuser.org manuf forum also... chances are you are going to get you answer from another source before you do from PTC..

Just hang in there MFegenbush

I also looked in WF2, and found nothing but helical approaches, even when I selected CLOSED_AREA_ENTRY = Ramp.

Just for grins, I tried the 'pocket' function in Expert Machinist, and got the desired ramp of 7 degrees, no helix.

Not sure if that's an option for you, but it might be worth a look.

I got a return call from PTC, finally. He left a message on my
voicemail that it is possible to ramp on closed sections only, and this
can't be done when CONSTANT_LOAD is selected. I ended up doing
the setup in expert machinist anyway...
