Datum point not in fittings?

Ok I'm somewhat new to Pro/Piping and have used it in Wildfire but my
company still uses 2001. When you insert a fitting such as a tee
or a reducer it requires a datum point to reference for placement,
which makes sense. However, none of the fittings in the piping library
that comes with Pro/E have a datum point in them. Adding a datum
point doesn't seem like a big deal, but to add anything to a family
table we have to get one of two people who can make those changes in
Intralink to do it. If I modify a family table part I can't check
it back in to intralink. Anyone know why PTC explains inserting a
fitting this way but leaves out this critical datum point?
