OPEN GL "using costumer extensions"?

burns

New member
I want to buy a low cost laptop and I want to run Widfire 2 on it.
I`ve seen some models with ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 and X600.
Looking at ATI`s web they say that these cards support OPEN GL "using costumer extensions".
What does it mean? Are they really OPEN GL cards?
Has anybody experience with these cards and Widfire 2?

There has been some discussion on this site before aboutlaptop graphics cards;

I would recommend getting a certified card if you can, it will save many headaches and much frustation down the road if you spend just a little more. We have Dell M70's which have Nvidia Quador FX cards and they run great. I know Dell has a M20 which is a littleless expensive but still has a certified card (ATI Mobility FireGL V3100). At one time we had a laptop with an ATI 9700 card on it and there was a noticable difference between it and the certified cards.

I have a dell 9200 with a 9700 card on it. I run both 2001 and
Wildfire 2 on it. However, the drivers for the mobility 9700 are
terrible and don't work well with PROE. However, you can easily
convert the 9700 card into a firegl card and the firegl card is
amazingly fast on a laptop. I don't know how to mod a X600, but
for the 9700, you can check out the thread about the inspiron 9200 in
this forum for information how to do it.
