u have probaby imported a surface. if u want to make a cut. u might want to try making it a solid 1st

edit -> solidify

otherwise import it as a solid :) if u can.

yeah the model is made up of only surfaces.

when u want to make ur cut. in wf2 just select ur cut as a surface.

but u could get who ever gave u the file to send u a solid version

or u could make a solid and then do some surface merges to get the top feature.

I have the same problem as ssaults.

Moroso, could you explain how you did the 'solidify' on the part that ssault posted?

I loaded the part in WildFire 1.0 but the 'Edit / Solidify' menu item
is grayed out, so I can not solidify the part and therefore can not
make a cut..

hmm

merge all the smaller surfaces together.

then edit---->solidify

or just ctrl- select all surfaces then edit--->solidify

Hi all!

You can fix this problem after these steps:

1. Right click on the import feature ->Select Edit definition

2. On the menu bar select select

Geometry->Heal geometry->Manual->Zip gaps->

Then select Automatic->Zip gaps->Accept->Return

All surfaces become as a single quilt.

3. On the menu bar select Edit->Feature properties

and set option Make Solid

4.Now click Done

Excellent job LosAngeles.....works perfectly.
Thanks, I just discovered this forum a few weeks ago and it is a
great source of information.

Hi LA,

It worked here too! Thanks!

I tried on another imported part but there it didn't work. I noticed that the surfaces did not exactly match. I tried to heal the geometry but it did not work. I could not connect the surfaces.

Well, 1 out of 2 isn't bad...

Eddy VE,

Sorry I didn't get back earlier, could you post the second file that won't solidify.

I'll try it for you and give feedback if there is any.

Hi Brian,

No worries! I'm not here every day myself..

I'm having a bit of difficulties uploading the file. Willtry again later..

Brian,

This is the file:

2005-05-09_045414_test_6000.zip

When you display it as wireframe and look at the front surface of the
profile, you will notice the faults in the surfaces: some of the
roundings radii are not stopping in the correct place.

Kind regards

Eddy

EddyVE,

Here is the file solidified, The radii surfaces were nonexistent so all I did was create the surfaces in Edit Definition, in there use surface by curves and create surfaces like boundary blends2005-05-09_105321_test_6000.prt.zip.

The file is in Wildfire 2.0 'cause that all I use, if you need it in step or neutral let me know.

Brian

Hi Brian,

I'm afraid I have WildFire 1.0 so I can't open your modified file..

I have never worked with surfaces so I haven't got a clue how to do what you did...
Thanks!

Kind regards
Edd

Brian,

Both the neutral and step file loaded fine in WF1.0.
Thanks for fixing the model!!!!
