Skeletons and mirroring

When making an assembly with subassemblies and mirrored subassemblies,
I have found that the mirror seems to be a snapshot of the state in
which the original subassembly was when the mirror was made.
Updates to existing features get updated in the mirror, but not new
features or components. Is it possible to force the mirror to
recheck the original for new parts/features and rebuild itself?
Or is the only solution to delete and recreate the mirror. Also,
is this poor modeling practice anyways? Should I be creating all
my datums within a single top-level skeleton rather than including them
in their appropriate sub-assembly skeleton? Thanks for any
comments.
