perpendicular holes in curved surface...

first time i have tried something like this, basically i am trying to model a curved perforated steel sheet.

I drew and extruded a thin section, converted it to sheet-metal (not sure if this was correct at this time) now i am trying to apply a zillion little holes in the surface, each hole being perpendicular to the surface.

I completely do not know if i have the work flow correct, at all; just something i have been trying.

anybody have any ideas, i am very new to free(er)-form modeling. moving from machine design to more industrial design
