flattening cylinders

rjwill

New member
I'm pretty new to Solidworks, have only been using it for 1 week, and have run into a slight problem. What I'm trying to do is design a part that is basically a long cylinder with a flat notch on one end (so the curved face is flat at one end). I have no clue how to do this and would like any tips as I'm sure this is a fairly easy/common thing to do in solidworks.

Thanks

Select a plane PARALELLEwith your flattened surface. Sketch in this plane the edges for yournotch. Exit from sketch.

In the tree manager select this sketch then apply feature EXTRUDE CUT. In the dialog box for this feature, under "From", play with the offset (or other options). (Note that from heare you can change the direction for EXTRUDE CUT feature.

Under "Direction 1" play again with the options. (Try, first, "Up to next" option.).

Hope this help you

Good luck !
