Mirror Problems

When trying to mirror a group of parts I get an error "Unable to create instances for the pattern."

I have created a sketch, everything is correctly constrained. I have extruded it then linear patterned it to make two. I then mirrored it across the right plane to make four on the front surface.

Now when I try to mirror four across the front plane (to the rear surface)I get the error. The object is a boss that has fillets on it. I have tried to mirror the linear pattern and the solo object and fillets. The only thing that I can mirror across the front plane is the base object itself. What am I doing wrong?

I'm using SW Office 2007 SP1.

No, Ididn't use "bodies". Please explain the use of Bodies, geometry and regular mirroring if you have time.
