Creating external thread on tube?

Bwts

New member
I am wanting to thread the outside of a 10mm diameter tube.

Would like to make it a standard M10 thread but for the life of me cant figure out how to do it.

Thanks for any help B

pick the surface that ends the tube as your sketch plane and insert sketch

convert the outside edge of the tube to the sketch so have that circumference on its own sketch now go Insert - Curve - Helix spiral

from there it you set up the spiral that is going to define your thread you then draw the shape that is going to add material and use a sweep to follow your spiral and leave you with the threaded end.

Go to INSERT -> Annotations -> Cosmetic thread.

For "Thread settings" select the edge (exterior or interior - where must be your thread) and the diameter for the thread (10 in your case). Click OK and that's all.

I useSW 2007 and sometimes I can see the thread and other times no. But in drawing the thread is ok. Maybe is a little bug or I do not know everything about threads in SW.

Good luck !
