Can anyone help?

I have been sent a DWG from AutoCAD but its in 3D so when I open it in Solidworks I only get the 2D lines (when opened in e drawings it is 3D).

Does anyone know of a way to get it into Solidworks in 3D?Or canAutoCAD export from other formats i.e STEP etc?

Cheers

Wayne,

Have the file sent to you in step 203 format. You should be able to open it as a 3D file in solidworks. As mentioned earlier IGES works as well, but I feel that Step 203 works better. Make sure that you do not have any mending or error checking on when you open/import the file. This will allow you to open and view all the data. Once you have this open and saved, then you can experiment with the mending and forming solids etc on additional imports.

good luck,
