Advice on how to make undercuts? Thankks

Hi,

I went through the Edmonti tutorials, yet I'm still having a little trouble trying to do this undercut.

Essentially, what I'm trying to do is to create an undercut below the blue line you see there. The area under the blue line are slightly thinner or shallower than the area above.

I've been struggling with this for a long time, I tried a lot of different things but I guess the main thing is I don't understand the "macros" or "rules" well enough to do it the "correct way".

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me out, by giving me some tips, suggestions, or even instructions.

Thank you for your time and patience, I sincerely appreciate it!

If I understand correctly what you want to do:

This willl have to be doen with and offset surface, before you make a
solid use offset surface and select the surface you want to undercut,
offset it the thickness of the undercut.

Project a surface through the blue line, merge and trim the offset surface
and the surface you created through the blue line.

Thicken the part, then use the merged trimmed surface to CUT the
thickened part.

I am hoping you have a basic understanding of how to create watertight
and closed surfaces, it would take to much time to describe step by step
but this should give you an idea of how to proceed.

I was rereading you post, if what you want to do is remove all the material
below the curve, then all you would have to do is project a surface using the
blue curve so it passes all the way through the part and then once again cut
it using the new surface.

Thank you very much splinedesigns.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will do so soon. I think I understand most of what you mean (post #1), so I will just play around in that sequence and see how it goes.

Thanks again and I'll post back if I'm still having troubles ;)

Thank you ttraser,

and don't know if this matters but,
the bulbous figure i made by using the shape feature and using a guided curve as the constraint. Not sure if that's the reason why I couldn't use wrap and some other features to try to trim it down.

I'm emailing the file now!
