<DIV>I am very familar with Autodesk Inventor and I'm trying to learn SolidWorks. I've got a fabrication assembly, simply a tube with a flange assembles to it.I would like to pull this assembly into a part file, and keep the link. Then final turn the part and mill to suit.</DIV>

<DIV>In Inventor I would pull the assembly into the part file using derived component. Derived component will allow you to insert either part files or assembly files. However in SolidWorks, it appears I can only pull in a part file as a derived component. How can I pull in an assembly? Thanks.</DIV>

Well, I figured it out. Instead of pulling each part into an assembly file, then inserting it. You have to pull each part into a PART file and assemble it there. A little odd but I guess it works.
