Modelling

I wish to model a bowden cable so that it can pass around pulleys and
transmit movement. I have tried using a spline to generate a
swept feature but this requires a rebuild everytime a component is
moved. Can anyone help me, please?

This is one area that SW is not good at... What I would suggest is that both the cable ends have a straight section on them past the pulleys then have the distance of both ends joined by a formula. So when end 1 is shortend by one inch the other is lengthend by one inch. I am sure it would rebuild faster but you still have to rebuild each move. If you can share an example model of what you want to achive I could try and see if I could make this work, you never know what a fresh approach can yeild.

One idea that comes to mind is to model the cable as a assembly of short length rods joined at the center-endpoints of each element to the desired length the problem with this is the mating hell you would go through on the next level assembly. Might work if it is a simple contraption.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have tried your second idea and,
yes, the mating takes awhile. The rebuild time does not make for
smooth interactive movement. I will try your first idea and let
you know the outcome.
