Where to start? rsd/cabling

Hey everyone.

To put it generally, I am in charge of designing and
modeling a wiring harness for a race car at university.
We have proE 5 and full access to their eLearning
Libraries, but I am still utterly lost at where to begin.
All I have is the internet and eLearning.

They don't provide any information on where to start from
nothing. I do have a 2d schematic in tiny cad that I will
put in RSD once I get that program.

Can anyone provide any help or guidance?

Well I am the administrator for the teams proE account, but
I am in contact with someone from proE. I'm looking for
more industry experience than structured learning.

call me. Ill help you guys. What city are you in? Do you have your licenses working or have access to the software? I have been using the Creo Schematic tools since the release (and Im on the technical committee) and have been using Pro/CABLE for years and years. `312.226.8339 Bart

Thanks a lot, I didn't see your reply until just now
though. Hopefully your offer still stands.

Is it ok to call in the evening? I am on co-op now and
don't get back to school until later.

As of now I have proE 5 and creo schematics up and
running properly, I have the components modeled with
coordinate 'fields' as my pin locations. I have gone
through a ptcU tutorial earlier in the year but it
doesn't explain how to set everything up as it uses the
downloaded files.

edit: I just tried to open the Cabling module in proE and
it's not there. Something must have happened with our
license file after getting new computers in the shop. I
just emailed my contact at proE to hopefully get that
taken care of asap.

Email me [email protected] to set up a time to chat. I leave work most nights after 6pm CST (chicago) and can talk till very late or early if you prefer.

Unfortunately PTC does not offer any default library nor basic schematics for your review after install. Fortunately for me it's hard to figure out on your own so I make out in training ;)

Unfortunately, the TPC provides not any base schema of the default library of control after installation. Fortunately for me, it is difficult to understand their own Windows, I am training.

I've started a design using the sample catalog, which seems
to be going ok for now. I tried to model the ecu that has X
number of pins going in and out of it, I thought I was
using the correct pin placement tool but the wire creator
wont snap to it as if it doesn't recognize it as a pin.

argh!

Thanks, I was beginning to wonder what had happened. No
worries though. One can't complain at volunteer work :)

Any particular time? I might leave soon to get somethings
done as I have a design meeting at 8pm

Can anyone help me with creating a module? I have copied
(to the best of my knowledge) stock modules that allow me
to wire to them but the one I created is not allowing me to
attach a wire to it.

Ok, so I sorta figured it out; I tried to route a circuit instead of a wire and it worked. but I could not connect the
module to a switch or lamp, only the wire would connect a switch and lamp. I've compared properties between all aspects and
they appear the same to me.

I need to be able to use one or the other to route everything in this schematic. Then the plan is to import the data to the
3d model. I already have coordinate axes where I want wires to go in the main parts of the model.

I get an error "cannot connect together shapes with different diagram types" So how is my module (in this case it is a
Motec M400 ECM) ever going to connect to sensors or switches?

I have been out of doing Pro-Cabling and RSD for the last year. However, I am going to get back into it, and start looking for a Pro-Cabling and RSD position. I have about two years of experience with both. So with that does anyone know where I can purchase the Pro E Cabling module and RSD to come back up to speed and make myself more employable. I am a very small business and cannot afford to pay an super high price for it so if any help will be appreciated.

A Note: My son has the Student Version of Wildfire 3 which I've been using to come up to speed with the Pro-E

Not sure if this is you first forum visit but you posted in
a presumably random thread. Next time search using key
words or create a thread to ask your question.

I happened to come across some info/pricing to help you on
your creo search: http://solidsmack.com/cad/ptc-creo-apps-
price-mac/

I've given up on this months ago and since switched to
Inventor, it's exponentially easier and I'm just about
finished. Maybe next year depending on the software we
choose I'll try this again.

Thanks for your reply though!
