Fixing files transfered from UNIX

I transfered part files created from my UNIX platform to my PC which uses Windows XP. They were archived in binary mode and 'scp'd to a friends computer and then 'ftp'd to mine. Pro/E brings up the binary transfer method message, but fails to retrieve the file after I select 'continue' for Pro/E to fix the file. Whats the problem? It shoudn't be bringing up the message in the first place. Am I forgetting something in the transfer?

When you ftp, do you type bin to make sure it transfers the following data in binary? Otherwise it transfers in ascii and hoses the file.
