One thing to watch out for are revolved features and extruded features with cylindrical elements. As Pro/E generates an internal axis, hence it likes to put them on the axes layer.

This was fixed some back in R20 but not all, for some strange, inexplicable reason the boffins at PTC didn't cover merge features and surface features.

For example a revolved surface would be put on the following layers:

02_AXES

05_SURFACES

According to my layer scheme.

One excellent rule is to use the same layer convention for everything - parts, drawings and assemblies. i.e. Don't do this:

02_AXES_PART

02_AXES_ASSY

02_AXES_DRW

By the time you get to your top assy and drawing you'll have layers up the wazoo..
