DEPENDANT COPY

Roger

New member
We would like to make a copy of a part and it's drawing, making minor changes to the copy, yet have the copy, otherwise, dependant on the original. I know this is possible, just have not done it in such a long time.

Doesn't this qualify as a family table?!?!

I mean you could make an instance in your part , then open the instance, make the necessary changes (they will be automatically added to the family table and the generic will remain unchanged).

Then make save a copy for the drawing and replace the model with the instance. Some of the dimensions will crash due to the changes but you can erase (not delete) them and add the correct dimensions.

<DIV>Anothermethodto reuse parts is the so called "Master Design" where you create your part/assy (the master)as a big quilt made of locked surfaces, then include this masteras an external merge in a new part, then solidifythe quiltsyou need. </DIV>
<DIV>In this way you can add features to this master that will only belong to that part in particular, but at the same time you can make changes on the master that will be reflected on everypart/assy that use it as external merge. You can also copy it Datums plans.</DIV>
<DIV>This method is more tedious because of all surface work, but when you get used to do it, you don't wanna leave it.</DIV>
