Hole of Relief

I would like of do some hole of relief around the cogwheel, I created by Cut>Extrude>...>...>Make Datum (here I created a new plane)>Setup New (to change the plane of cut). Only after that all I will go in Pattern. In resume not there other way (faster ou easer) to me do this?

I got do the pattern, but I thought that this is very lingered in relation with others softwares hereby that I asked if there is a way easier or faster.
