Is PTC ripe for Merger?

Siemens just purchased UGS, and PTC is still a fully independent entity. I also see Autodesk as looking for a quick shot of high strength PLM market share. Is a PTC merger on the Horizon, and if so, with whom?

My opinion is that PTC is in a solid financial condition (thanks I suspect mostly to my maintence payments) and will continue on a acqusition path as it has, with no interest in merger.

I think so too. Siemens had to swallow all of UGS' debts. PTC, will continue buying stuff up. Looking forward to the integration of ITEDO with PTC's product lines. I think what it does is pretty cool.

PTC has also just lost a large customer.

Most of PTC's income is from maintenance, not new license sales.

C'mon looslib, we here that one all the time. Name names

UGS has been losing money while PMTC & ADSK have been making it hand over fist. I thought their reverse split last year was a little suspicious but it seems to have paid off. Neither one are going anywhere. Although we can still imagine how great it might be to integrate alias with isdx.

While you'd think all Siemens divisions using Pro/E would switch to UG, that will be much easier said than done.

I think Siemens acquired UGS for the PLM bit, not the MCAD. I wonder if corporate will make a push for all groups to switch. Ouch, that's going to be painful. But having said that. I know some guys who are dual system capable, i.e. Pro & NX. I personally haven't used NX, so I can't comment on the different paradigms used by both the apps.

mgnt8,

Check out the numbers below and see how many quarters UGS has reported a loss. Also see which company has higher revenue.

mgnt8,

I think you'll find that for most people/companies live for the mighty green dollar (or euro/pound over here) and that really is their base line

I use Proe WF2.0 and SW 2006 and a regular basis. I have taken UG NX2 training class and have been working with it in the real world for about two weeks. NX2 may be a great machining package, but the drawing end of the package is really poor. I also don't like how you can just create a model in space and not have it related to the Central CYS.

UG has to many pitfalls and needs to remove some of the old archaic ways of doing things. It seems as if they have two or three ways of doing the same function. This is where I believe in the communist regime of doing things like Pro-e has (this is the only way to do create this sweep.........).

All parts created in UG/NX are related to the ACS. You can have multiple WCS within a part. Drawing is the NX weakness, but is better than when I started on UG at V3.

Pro/E on the other hand does NOT have a defined coordinate system. You can create a base one anywhere in space.
